Over the Road Trucker Michael Frybarger Talks About His Reasons for Using Biodiesel at the National Biodiesel Conference

Truckers are demanding biodiesel across the country and the National Biodiesel Board wanted to get that message out to biodiesel producers and distributors attending the Biodiesel Conference in San Antonio, February 4th-7th.  So, they invited Michael Frybarger, an independent trucker from Maryland, to speak to hundreds of attendees on why he uses biodiesel and what issues he has encountered.

Frybarger tried biodiesel because he wanted to reduce his reliance on foreign oil.  Now, he uses it all the time. “I don’t want to see my grandchildren going to war over oil,” Frybarger said.  As an independent trucker, Frybarger takes loads all over the country.  Once he knows his assignment, he goes to BioTrucker.com to find out where he can purchase biodiesel along his route.  He says that the added lubricity of biodiesel helps his Cummins engine work more efficiently and therefore reduces friction that causes engine wear.  It also doesn’t hurt that he notices his 2000 Volvo 770 gets a little better fuel mileage when running biodiesel. The only issue that he personally has encountered is availability along all his routes. He has also learned about a truck stop that received poor quality biodiesel and consequently stopped selling it. His message to producers and distributors is to always meet the ASTM quality standards or run the risk of alienating truck stops and truckers from using biodiesel.

Frybarger's presentation, along with trucking company Decker Trucking, was so well received that one participant stood up and said that it was the most valuable session that he attended at the conference.
